What to expect from therapy
Therapy in my view, is a process, and you may well be wondering what it might involve. Taking the decision to start therapy can often connect you with a variety of feelings: potentially exciting, daunting and uncertain feelings.
I aim to adapt our sessions to your needs, validating your experience. Do you need to be given more space for things to surface? Or could a thoughtful l question help you to get in touch with whats happening? I will check in with you, and invite you to be curious about our sessions as we work.
There is no right or wrong way to ‘do’ therapy. Sometimes thoughts may flow into words. At other times, difficult feelings can make it hard to sense what the direction of therapy is at that moment. Sometimes a silence can reveal answers that may usually be lost in our everyday modes of communication.
Many people assume that therapy is only for our darker thoughts and feelings. But, sometimes therapy can be just as intense, when getting in touch with the things that light us up in life: our dreams, hopes, and desires. There are many parts of you, and my aim is to welcome them all, at your own pace. You may find yourself not knowing or feeling uncertain during the process, when this experience is held with compassion, it can be transformative and open up new areas of our personality.
